Zakk Wylde’s Sensitive Side
It’s hard to name a hit rock song that doesn’t have a strong guitar part. Ozzy Osbourne’s “Mama, I’m Coming Home” certainly isn’t one such tune, because it’s got a great guitar part. Zakk Wylde’s tender intro on the 1991 power ballad—similar to this E major passage—is so pretty, it helped Osbourne crack the Top 40 for the first time as a solo artist. The approach is simple. Just descend down the E major scale on the third string (starting at the 9th fret) and throw in the pleasing drone of the open B and high-E strings wherever you please.
